Multiple Calls - Same Issue
Tue. May 29th 2012

WVFD responded to a transformer hissing and sparking according to the first caller.  Upon the arrival of Chief Morgan and DC Morgan they found a tree limb had broken during the brief storm that had just passed through and was lying on the power, cable and telephone lines.  The branch was sparking and as the rain drops hit it you could hear hissing.  CL&P was contacted and all units returned to quarters.   The branch was not endangering traffic or property.

Approximately 1 hour later they department received another call for a transformer explosion and fire.  Upon arrival Lt. Dains found the breaker for the power in this area had popped.  There was no fire or sparking.  When breakers do pop they do make a very loud noise that can be consider an "explosion" to the general public.  Lt. Dains relayed the information to dispatch who then gave CL&P an update.
