Just as the day was winding down and most people were preparing to end their work day and head home the department received a request for an Engine and crew to standby at the Southbury main fire station. Southbury was sending 2 engines and a tanker to Newtown.
The department received the tone out at approximately 3:37 pm and Engine 4 with 6 firefighters went en route about 10 minutes later. They responded, per protocol, with the flow of traffic or a non-emergency response as the department calls it. A back fill to another station is not an "emergency" that requires a Priority response - with lights and sirens.
They were release and returned to Woodbury just after 7pm with the thanks from Southbury for "holding down the fort" while they were helping Newtown at a structure fire.
The WVFD had 13 firefighters respond the the Orenaug stations when the tone came in. Only those that are certified FF1's can be assigned to the crew being sent out of town. Chief Morgan assigned a well rounded group from those that respond so as both towns had the resources they would need if they were called upon.
