The Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department spent the day at Pomperaug High School in Southbury showing middle school students from around the region what a firefighter does. The day is part of a 7 part series that area young people were nominated by their teachers to attend.

The Association of the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department held their annual meeting last evening. The election of Association Officers took place. President Susan Burdick turned the meeting over the the nominating committee so the election could take place.
Woodbury Fire Officers are out training - still, or should we say, yet again. Cpt. Corey Shaker and Lt. Ryan Murphy spent Tuesday, playing with fire. Well, kinda. They both attended Flashover Survial at the Connecticut State Fire Academy during June Fire School.

Last evening the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department elected company officers at their annual meetings. The WVFD is made up of the fire companies - The Hotchkissville Company and The Orenaug Company. The new slate of officers take over July 1st.

The day started out with a sense of anticipation and excitement - who would catch that first fish, the biggest fish or the most fish? Would the weather hold and give a great day of fishing? It turned out to be a great day full of sunshine and excitement.

Firefighters spent their morning at Nonnewaug High School - Vo-Ag center giving a short tour of Engine 5 to area elementary school students. Every year in May the Vo-Ag students host this open house and bring young student in to learn about the agricultural side of school.

Wow - Firefighter Bud Neal is celebrating his 68th birthday today. Bud is a past Chief of the department and is still a very active firefighter. He teachers the departments annual brush fire training class and can probably out work most of the other members in the woods.

The Orenaug Fire Company held thier first car wash of the season on Sunday May 9, 2010. As in the past, there is no set fee for the wash - just a donation is asked. They held in on Mother's Day to catch those son's and daughter's who might want to have thier moms drive around in a clean car.

Last evening the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department conducted a refresher drill for the "Rope" team. Firefighters practiced tying knots, hauling systems and rigging a rescue basket for removal of patients from a lower angle from the rescuers.
