Woodbury firefighters practice cold water rescue
Wednesday, February 5th, 2020

Plunging into freezing waters in an ice-covered Orenaug Park pond, Woodbury firefighters conducted a ice rescue drill to prepare for potential falls through the ice this season. “It’s a winter of thin ice so far, and we want to be ready to save lives,” says Chief Janet B. Morgan.

Deputy Chief David Lampart in charge of training explained that about 15 members of the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department practiced their cold water skills by quickly donning cumbersome wetsuits, moving across ice, and extracting a volunteer victim using different methods and different scenarios. The exercise was led by three instructors from Flash Fire Industries, Monroe.
